The Ninth Edition of Bufala Fest Concluded Yesterday
Thousands of visitors every day in Piazza Municipio enjoying taste, knowledge, and community Bill De Blasio: “Let’s bring Bufala Fest to New York”
Naples, September 8, 2025 – The ninth edition of “Bufala Fest – not just mozzarella” concluded yesterday, Sunday, September 7. The festival, celebrating taste, community, knowledge, and the integration of the buffalo, fish, and agri-food supply chains, took place in the heart of Naples, in Piazza Municipio.
Once again, throughout the event, thousands of visitors attended the village set up in Piazza Municipio without causing any traffic or circulation issues in Naples. This success highlights the effectiveness of the plan implemented by the City of Naples and the ANM Park & Go initiative, aided by the central location with convenient access to public transport, just steps from Metro Lines 1 and 6, the Centrale and Montesanto funiculars, and Line 2 and Cumana stations.
During the final day, with the support of the cultural association “Giardino delle Idee”, chaired by Daniela Di Prisco, a symbolic bridge between two global cities was highlighted in the talk “Naples & New York: Two Metropolises United by the Art of Attracting the World”. Speakers included Bill De Blasio, former Mayor of New York City; Gaetano Manfredi, Mayor of Naples; and Leonardo Massa, Vice President of MSC Cruises. The session was moderated by Fabio Paluccio, journalist at Adnkronos.
“Bufala Fest – stated Antonio Rea, Organizational Director of Bufala Fest – is an established format that highlights the entire buffalo supply chain, turning it into an opportunity for regional development. Even in this ninth edition, we complemented tastings from our ‘artists of taste’ with insights on topics such as food knowledge and the integration of the buffalo supply chain with the fish sector. Seeing an audience of all ages participate with enthusiasm and decorum confirms that we have found the right formula, combining taste, culture, and territorial promotion. The presence of Bill De Blasio cements the union between two great cities that, despite different identities, share an extraordinary ability to attract the world through culture, art, and gastronomy, celebrating a bond that transforms food into a universal language of dialogue and hospitality.”
“In New York – said Bill De Blasio – everything reminds us of Naples and Campania when it comes to food and gastronomic excellence. Bufala Fest is a successful event promoting and valuing the specialties of this magnificent land and could certainly be replicated in New York City.”
“Naples and New York – added the Mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi – are united by an ideal bridge of history, culture, and traditions, built by our ancestors a century and a half ago when they bid farewell to the statue of San Gennaro at the old Molo San Vincenzo before embarking for America with their dreams and hopes.”
“It is truly moving – stated Leonardo Massa, Vice President Southern Europe, MSC Cruises – to recall that the ships carrying our ancestors seeking fortune across the Atlantic are the main link connecting Naples and New York for over a century, just as MSC Cruises now carries thousands of Italian and American tourists worldwide every day.”
The Success of Casa Coldiretti at Bufala Fest
Casa Coldiretti welcomed visitors throughout Bufala Fest, offering five days of activities, introducing agri-food enthusiasts to local, zero-kilometer, and small-scale productions, and further enhancing the event with the visit of National President Ettore Prandini.
Promoting knowledge, Coldiretti Campania distributed the Mediterranean Nutrition Handbook to children and families, curated by nutritionist Francesca Marino and journalist Roberto Esse.
During the five days of Bufala Fest, visitors actively participated in the live production of Provolone del Monaco DOP, another Campanian cheese excellence. The collaboration with Onaf Napoli highlighted small regional producers through short courses and tasting sessions, alongside live demonstrations of the “white gold”: Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP.
Thanks to Coldiretti Pesca, Casa Coldiretti also spotlighted the integration of the buffalo supply chain with the fish sector and the broader agri-food chain.
Collaborations and Sponsorships
“Bufala Fest – not just mozzarella” was organized in collaboration with the “Giardino delle Idee” Association, Coldiretti Campania, and the Consortium for the Protection of Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP, with the patronage of the Region of Campania, the Municipality of Naples, and the Metropolitan City of Naples. It was co-financed under the PN FEAMPA 21-27 – OS 2.2 action 4 Intervention 2, the National Program of the European Maritime, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Fund, addressing three key challenges by 2030: green transition, digital transition, and resilience, with the added goal of promoting cross-cutting innovation processes.
FEAMPA Campania
Through intervention 222402, the Region of Campania launched a plan to enhance and promote Campanian fish products: small pelagics, mussels, and bluefin tuna. The plan supports knowledge and strengthening of the regional fisheries and aquaculture sector, encourages the consumption of sustainable seafood based on freshness, seasonality, food safety, and conscious consumption, particularly among youth and families, reinforcing the link between territory, gastronomic identity, and the blue economy.
